A "SOPHISTICATED" SET OF JEWELRY!

Happy, happy Monday!!!  Hello to you all my wonderful family-friends and any/all new family-friends!!!  I hope you had a great weekend and said a prayer for anyone who was affected by Hurricane Irene.

Well, this is going to be one busy week for me.  I've been asked to participate in a blog-hop on Wednesday by Kacee McVic over at You Had Me at Scrap.  This hop is in celebration of her 36th birthday; you may notice the framed logo announcing it at the top of my sidebar.  I am so honored to have been asked and eqaully as honored accepting!  And the participant line-up is fantastic -- you won't want to miss it!  The following day, Thursday, it's time for my monthly DT project and tutorial on Sheila's blog at She's A Sassy Lady, and I plan to see you there.  I do hope you'll join me for both events as I have some wonderful projects prepared for you.  And, last but not least, at some unspecific time over the weekend I'll be announcing a "wee" candy package.  If you remember, I did tell you I'd have a little something for you after my last RAK package, so stay turned.  Everyone posting a comment will be eligible!

For my project today, I have a pendant and earring set I made last night.  The crystal on the pendant is a  Tim Holtz facet.  I really think I'm addicted to jewelry making...lol!!!  I am so loving making easy pieces to have ready to give as Christmas presents this year!!!  It's fun, relaxing, and without really knowing what I'm doing I'm getting some amazing results.  Here's my project and I think it looks pretty darn "sophisticated":

I really like this and how it turned out, and I hope the Christmas recipient will like it too!!!  Of course, I hope you like it!!!  Hey... you never know... ,YOU may be a recipient of some of my jewelry!  LOL!

Before I leave, I must give a shout-out to Kacee for passing on to me the beautiful Butterfly Award:

As I've received this award several times already, I'd like to thank Kacee for thinking of me, I am honored and appreciative; however, instead of passing it on to "named" others, I'd like for everyone who has not recieved this award to accept it from me.  Please grab it, display it on your blogs!

Kaycee, in appreciation I'll add your name to this award on my sidebar and, again, thank you so much!

Well, I'm off to do some crafting!!!  So you know what that means...

I'll be seeing you!

NOTEPAD TUTORIAL - PART II

Happy Sunday!!!  And I know it's really Sunday because I just came home from church -- lol!!!  I hope all my blogging-family enjoyed a wonderful and very happy weekend!

Today I'm picking up where I left off in yesterday's tutorial.  I will now show how to construct the notepad.   For this tutorial, I will be using only leftover bits of paper, so it's not going to look very pretty for this demonstration; however, you will use a paper of your choice for your actual notepad.  And, remember, your pages should be plain typing or copy paper!!!

Okay, now that all the pages are printed and/or cut out, you will need a front and back cover; cut 2 pieces of 2-7/8" x 5.50 heavy cardstock mats for your covers:

Taking all of the inside pages, sandwich them between the front and back covers:

Lightly tap all sides of your pad making certain all the pages are even on all sides.  It is IMPORTANT that all pages align and meet evenly across the top to ensure all pages are caught up in the glue binding, so pay particular attention to the top of your notepad.  Once your notepad is evenly in place, clip the pad to keep the pages together and to keep them from moving or shifting.  I've used a paper clip here because this pad is thin, however, your pad will more than likely be much thicker and you may need to use a binding clip or clamp:

Using a wet glue, such as Crafters Pick "The Ultimate", rubber cement or even Elmers Glue, etc., liberally apply glue across the top pages of the notepad:

Using the index finger and thumb, run your fingers across the top of the notepad  lightly squeezing/pressing as you go to make certain the glue penetrates into all of the top layers.  Next, place the pad on a non-stick surface and cover it with a non-stick surface (I used MeltArt Craft Sheets; or, you can use wax or freezer paper); place a heavy book on top to apply pressure and assure the pages stay in contact; allow glue to dry for 30 minutes.

Once the glue is dry, you will need to cover and conceal the glued top-side of your notepad.  Cut a piece of paper 2-7/8" across and long enough to cover the top of your notepad with at least 1/2" to cover both the top and back covers:

Apply glue to the cover tab making certain to get all the edges well lubricated:

Slightly fold the tab in half (BUT DO NOT  ALLOW ANY PORTION TO ADHERE TOGETHER -- this step is to get an even alignment on the front and back covers, and along the top of the notepad).  Take the center of the cover tab and lay it across the top of the notepad and press down; fold down the front and back sides of the tab and press down.  Finish by firmly pressing down both sides of the tab to the pad, and by running a bone-folder or knife-edge along the top of the pad to made certain it adheres and to look nice and neat:

Allow the glue to dry on the tab about 15-20 minutes and your notepad is ready with all the printed (or blank) pages inside:

Now decorate and embellish it!!!

Your notepad can be as large or small as you'd like -- depends on the size you cut.  You can have as many pages as you'd like; pages can be printed or blank pages, and you can even bind it on the side book-style!  Put them in matching boxes or envies to give as gifts!  You're the designer and it's all up to you!!!  Here's another peek at one I made:

Should you have any questions, please just let me know; I will get back to you, I promise!  In the meantime, I hope to see your notepad creations!  And by all means, please feel free to link them to my blog!!!

Well, I'm off to go play now!  I'll be back with a project soon!!!  So, hugs to you all and...

I'll be seeing you!

NOTEPAD TUTORIAL - PART I

Happy Saturday, everyone!!!  And hello and welcome to a new family-member, which we all know is a new follower!  Thank you for finding your way home!

As I promised, I have put together the notepad tutorial for you; however, I have decided that instead of attempting to do an entire tutorial for the notepad, due to the length of this tutoiral, I will break it down into 2 parts:  Part I today will show how to personalize the inside pages on on your notepad.  (Page personailzation is optional!  If you do not want to personalize your pages with an image, you can skip to where the "Scoring" instructions begin at the bottom of this post); Part 2 will show how to construct the notebook and I will post that tomorrow.

This notepad will be 2-7/8" x 5.50".  For the notepad pages you will use 8.50" x 11" regular copy paper (the cheaper the better) as cardstock will be too thick and will not produce good pages.  Let's begin:
  • Scan image you want on your notepad pages into  your computer; save and name it into a file you can recall
  • Open up WordPerfect: click to open "File" at the top of the document page; scroll down to "Page Setup" and click to open:

  • Look for the "Layout" tab in the drop-down box at the top of box and click to open layout page; scroll down to the "Columns" and change the number of columns to 3; beneath "Columns" change "Rows" to 2; click "OK" to return to document page:

  • At the top of document page click on "Insert"; scroll down to "Graphics" and click; select "From File" from the menu to open your directory
  • Click on the drop-down button in the "Look in" bar at the top of your directory; locate where you saved your image and open it
  • Once your image inserts into your document you can click to highlight it, re-size and move it to where you want it on your page; you can place it at the top, bottom or center.  Once you adjust your image, press and hold your "Control" key down and hit the "Enter" key to progress to the next page then copy your image to paste on each of the additional columm and row pages.  Once you've copied and adjusted your image on each page, your document should look like this:

NOTE:  Disregard where your margins are set!!!  Your pages will equally divide once cut and image will be atomatically placed according to your adjustments.  If I am centering my image, I go to the format bar and use the "Center" option to make certain my images are centered.  However, it shouldn't be hard to just eyeball it as there are faint outlines on the page to show where your image is located on the page.

Now you're ready to print and cut out your pages!  After you cut and score your document, you will have the first 6 pages for your notepad.

Scoring:  score with the 8.50 length at 2-6/8" and 5-5/8"; turn paper so that 11" side of paper is across the top and score at 5.50".  I have outlined the scoring below for you to see as an example of what your page will look like:

Cut along each score line to have 6 separate pages:

.
Stack the 6 pages and continue printing, scoring, cutting pages and stacking them until you have as many inside pages as you'd like in your notepad.

I'll be back tomorrow with Part 2, showing how to construct your notepad -- this is the easy part!!!  In the meantime, you might want to have all your pages cut and ready, and a sheet of heavy cardstock for your front and back cover!

If you have any questions, please comment me; I'll get back to you as soon as I can!

Thanks for dropping by, and...

I'll be seeing you!

I THINK IT'S CALLED A "SPINNER" CARD!!!

Hello, all!!!  LOL!!!  I think it's safe for me to say -- again -- this time it really is Friday!!!

Yesterday I was a maniac because I thought I'd waited until the last minute (which I normally do) to prepare for an engagement which is tonight but which I thought was last night; confusing?  Forget it!!!  Anyway, I'm a day ahead on my weekend plan preparations because I ended up with a day I'd lost!!!  OMG, even more confusing!!!

Anyway, as I had a bit more time than I thought, I began on the notepad tutorial -- but,... because I was a day ahead I only partially finished it so that I could begin another project!  (I think I'm on a roll here!)  Suffix it to say, today I'm back where I was yesterday!!!   Okay, I think I better quit while I'm ahead!!!

How naughty you all were too!!!  Only one of you mentioned to me yesterday was Thursday!!!  Thanks, Sandy!!!  LOL!!!

Overall, I managed to finish this little card I'm going to share with you today due to the extra hours of losing the day I found!  I think these cards are called spinners but I'm not really sure.  I've seen these for a long time and decided I finally felt like figuring out how they're done.  I did!!!  This card has 8 images to fit inside the window as you spin it.  I used both words and graphics; I'm going to show you 4 of them; however, I used mirra cardstock which is really difficult to to get good shots of because it's so reflective:

As this is my first, I think I did okay with it!  And they're so much fun!!!

Now I've got to run, want to get in a few more visits with as many of you as I can before preparing for that engagement tonight that, fortunately, I was able to get every ready and everything laid out for yesterday.  Tomorrow morning, I'll be attending a benefit but I'll complete the notepad tutorial when I come in, so it'll be on-schedule for later tomorrow or Sunday!

Ive also had the honor of being passed another award from another sweet family-friend (maybe two), so I'll be presenting and passing that on also!

As always, thanks for stopping by -- you're all so wonderful and I love you so!!!

I'll be seeing you!

NOTEPAD SET... MIXED MEDIA / VICTORIAN STYLE

Happy, happy Friday to all my precious family!!!  Hope everyone's doing well, and geared up for a fabulous weekend of crafting and scrapping!!!

I have another little handmade notepad I want to share with you today.  However, before I present it, I was requested to do a tutorial on these notepads and how to personalize/add images to the pages.  I have not personalized or added an image to the pages on today's notepad project; however, I will include how to do that on the tutorial.  I will have the tutorial ready to post either tomorrow (Saturday) or no later than some time on Sunday.  I have several engagements that won't allow me to get it done any earlier than late tomorrow.

For this little notepad, I made a lace pocket to hold it:

The notepad includes a matching little paper clip (isn't it cute?) to use as a note-page holder:
Did you see the little paper clip page holder?  If you missed it, here you go:

This little notepad is smaller than the other one I posted.  This one measures 2.25" x 3.75" and is just right to tuck into a purse!  I hope you like it!

If you're interested in the tutorial on how I made these, please check back with me tomorrow or Sunday.

I also want to share the Butterfly Award  which was, again, passed on to me this time from my sweet little friend, Raina.  Thank you, sweetie!!!  Please click on Raina's name to be directed to her deliightful blog!!!
Instead of repeating the answers to the 12 questions, I'll forego that, but would like to continue passing this along to six (6) others as Raina noted on the acceptance terms.  Normally I'd pass repeated awards on to everyone, but I would really like to keep these awards going so they can continue to be passed on to other deserving crafters throughout the neighborhood.  These are the 6 ladies I'd like to present this award to this time around:
  1. TerryO
Please when you have a minute, visit all of my talented family-friends!!!
Thank you all so much for stopping by; you're all wonderful, love you all, and...
I'll be seeing you!

FATHER I STRETCH MY HANDS TO THEE...

Hello, everyone!  Hope all's well and that you're loving life!!!

Today I have a happy accident to share!  I thought I was going to have to abandon and toss this card because I had no idea of what I wanted the outcome to be; I'd cut it, glued it, took it apart several times.  What I did know was I wanted to do a card for a friend going through a difficult time, and that I really wanted to use the little embellishment I'd made as a complement.  However, constructing the card just wasn't working.  I went back and forth with it about 3 times and was thinking I was going to ruin the paper and have to start over again.  Just as I was about to give up -- almost miraculously -- the card began to come together into something I began to like -- by sheer accident:

The embellie was a metal frame I found in the dollar store.  I cut the box-frame edge from around the embossed area, affixed a picture I found on the internet to the inside of the blank and filled it with Glossy Accents.  The picture is of a woman with her arms outstetched and reaching towards the sky.  Here's the inside of the card which reads, "Father I Stretch My Hands To Thee... No Other Help I Know":
It was pretty top heavy because I had to keep re-doing it and very carefully because of the cut-out front.  To keep the bottom from being flimsy I glued on a panel with the sentiment (computer generated).  I really like this card and I certainly hope you do to.  And, I hope it lets my friend know that in troubling times there's always an answer.
Yesterday I didn't get back to post a beautiful award I recieved from two (2) dear and sweet family-friends, Sandy and Susan:

In accepting this award I must answer the following 12 questions, and pass the award on to 10 others:
Name your favorite color?  The combination of gold and cream
Name your favorite song?  I don't really have a favorite song
Name your favoirte dessert?  Chocolate icecream with a slice of cream cheese cake (lol!)
What wizzes you off at the moment?  At the moment I am absolute wonderful -- nothing wizzing me off
Your favorite pet?  "The" Buster, of course!
Black or white?  Depends on what's blackor white
Your biggest fear?  Living past 100
Best feature?  I really don't know
Everyday attitude?  Typically happy and calm
What is perfection?  For me, I'd say all things in Heaven
Guilty pleasure?  Buying and sneaking in crafting supplies without the hubby knowing it
When you're upset?  I do several things depending on the situation but mostly I cry and/or pray
This award is being passed on to:
Thank you, again, ladies for my beatufil award!!!  And thank you for thinking of me!

As for everyone else, please go visit ALL my wonderful family when you have time to drop in on them!!!  Just click all of their names to be directed to their blogs.

Have a happy day!!!  And, of course...,

I'll be seeing you!

A HANDMADE NOTEPAD AND MATCHING GIFT BOX

Happy Monday!!!  I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and looking forward to an even better week!!!

I see I have a couple of new followers -- WELCOME!  I won't treat you as guests because you're just long-lost family who've finally made it home!!!  Glad you're here!

I think I must have eaten something that disagreed with me because I felt a bit ill late Saturday and half of the day yesterday!  I did make it to church but came home and slept most of the rest of the day.  Whatever little "bug" that had bitten me though, well... let's just say it's venom is out of my system and I'm feeling great!!!

I have a little handmade notepad with a matching gift box I made to share with you today.  As you'll see, it was a good canvas for me to play around with using my pearl pens... again!!!  I think I went a kind of overboad but I like it just the same.  Evidentually I'll have them just perfect!  Hope you don't get too tired of them before that happens...LOL!!!  Anyway, here's my project:

Since I was making this little pad by hand, I decided to also match the pages, so I scanned the design image into Photoshop and added it to the notepad pages, see:

This was a fun and simple little project, and I enjoyed doing it to share with you!  Hope you like it!!!

Well, I'm off to try to think of 10 honest answers to questions I need to answer to accept a blog award from 2 very dear ladies.  Of course, I need to think of 10 of you to pass it on to also -- always so very difficult for me to do -- I just love you all!  Anyway, I'll be back a bit later to share the award, answer the questions, and pass it on!!!  In advance, I'd like to pre-thank my dear family-friends.  I'll reveal who they are and the award when I come back!

Love ya, hugs, and...

I'll be seeing you!

IF I CAN MAKE THIS NECKLACE, YOU CAN TOO!!!

Hello, everyone!  Another weekend is here already and I'm still wondering where the week went!  LOL!!!

Today's project is also my DT project over at Pam's, so if you missed it there...  Of course I can't imagine anyone missing any project featured on The BugBytes!!!  LOL!

Making jewelry is so much fun and this project was really very easy!  Let me get going because this is a picture-heavy tutorial but, before I begin, please note that I did this in somewhat of a hurry without letting glue dry and/or catching up some loose ends.  Of course, after I finished the tutorial, I went back and took my time to clean it up.  If you do this project, you'll take your time on every step!!!  You'll let all the glue dry between each step and tuck in every loose end!!!  Right?!!!   LOL!

Here's the necklace I made for my DT project today:

Now I'll get started on how I did it.  I began with a piece of cord 24" (2 feet) long (NOTEI added a dab of glue to each end of the cord to keep the twisted ends from separating after cutting the cord and before beginning this project);  a strand of pearls 30" (2.5 feet long), 2 wooden beads, 2 large cord end caps, 2 jump rings, 1 clasp, and a glass dichroic pendant; you'll also need a needle-nose and a flat-nose set of pliers, and E-6000 glue.

Starting with the cord, I evenly folded to double it then added a drop of glue to the connected middle tip-end to keep it together and to avoid it separating while working with it (I did not glue closed the open end of the cord):

Next I taped the glued end of the cord to the table and began loosely but evenly twisting the cord, one end over the other, until I came to the very end of the cord:

Once I got to the end of the cord, I then glued the two ends together to keep them from separating.  This is what I got:

Next, making certain I was working from the very middle (center) of my cord,  I added the glass dichroic pendant onto the cord and slid a wooden bead on each side of the pendant -- making certain it was directly in the middle of the cord:

I then took the strand of pearls and starting from the middle of the strand of pearls I laid them beneath the glass pendant and brought one of each end of the strands of pearls over each of the wooden beads; I applied  a dab of  glue to each pearl on the sides of the beads to secure them in place:

Starting on one side of the pendant, I began to loosely but evenly wrap the pearls around the cord until I got to the end of the cords, then I glued the last pearl to the end of the cord (it's easy if you follow the twist in the cord):

I did the same thing to the other side and this is what I had:

Before going any further, I first held up my necklace with the ends together to make certain it draped properly!  If the cords and pearls would have been too tightly wrapped and didn't drape evenly, I would have unglued the ends to re-wrap the cord and pearls to make sure it draped as evenly as possible.  After I did this I added the end caps to each side of the necklace ends.  To do this I first added glue E-6000 glue to the inside of the caps and taking one cord/pearl end, pushed it into the end of one of the cord end caps (NOTE:  This is where you'll take your time!  You may need to use a skewer to get all the ends tucked in).  When I finished adding both end caps, I had this:

Now the last thing I had to do was add my jump rings and the clasp.  Here, you'll have to pay close attention in the reading because this is a two-hand operation, and I can only use one hand with having to hold the camera and take the picture.  I grabbed and held one side of a jump ring with my  needle-nose plier making sure the end of the jump ring that opens is at the top (facing up); next I took the flat-nose plier to  grasp and hold the other side of the jump ring; once I had each end held, I  very slightly twisted the flat- nose plier gently towards or either away from myself while holding the end of the jump ring held with the needle-nose plier still -- I do not just pull the jump rings open by pulling to each side.  Once opened the jump ring will have one end opened slightly in front of the other  to look like this:

Now I slid the opened jump ring onto the connecting end of the cord end clasp.  To close the jump ring, I did the same thing in opposite to how I opened it; I grabbed one end of the ring with the needle-nose pliers and the other side with the flat, and twisted until the rings connected to close.  If done properly you will feel a slight pressure or a slight snap when the ends of the ring lock in place. When this side was done, I did the other side.  One last step and my necklace was done!

To complete the necklace, I  opened the connecting end of the clasp and secured it to the end of one of the jump rings!!!  That's it -- easy peesy!!!  A pretty handmade necklace:

Your turn!!!  I purchased all my jewelry supplies from either Michael's and/or Hobby Lobby.  However, you can use any old jewelry findings, buttons, coins, etc. and just glue it on!!!   You can even recycle old jewelry for parts like the clasp, jump rings, etc.  You're the designer!!!

That's it for this month!  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to leave me a comment.  I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I hope you like my project today, and thank you so much for stopping by.
I'll be seeing you!
