WHERE AM I? WHAT AM I DOING!

Hello, all!  Hope you're all doing well!

As for me -- I could KICK myself!!!  LOL!!!  We just had new window blinds installed and I was looking at the walls in my family room and realized the wallpaper border which I hadn't thought to check before the blinds were installed didn't go with the new blinds -- they clashed!!!  So, I knew I had to remove it -- immediately (why didn't I consider this before the blinds were put up anyway?!  Where in the heck was my mind?!!!).  Anyway I run to my computer and look up removing wallpaper tips and calling friends.  Following all the suggestions, this is still one big headache!!!!  Who SAID this was easy?!!!  You wet the stuff down, pull away a few strips of paper and then you've got to get the glue off the walls -- you wet it down, pull away a few strips of paper and then you've got to get the glue off the wall -- and on it goes!!!  I used steam, vinegar, sprayed it with water and so on; this is NOT EASY!!!  LOL!!!

Fortunately, I am almost done and suffix it to say, I'll never ever in my life use wallpaper  again!!!  I do have to laugh though because I can only imagine what I must look like with bits of wallpaper on my face, in my hair, and water and bits of paper stuck to everything!!!  I guess it's best I be amused about it than just totally disgusted, huh?!!!  LOL!

Here's all what's left for me to do:

Just this strip,

and then behind the blinds because, like I said, I didn't even consider them before the blinds were installed.  I guess I'd gotten so used to them... duh!!!:

See it up there?!!!  How gross!!!  And I've got to get behind there to get that stuff down!!!  And, yes, the walls in my family room are lavendar and purple (or wine, something like that)!!!  LOL!  And I picked those blinds because my furniture is cream and shades of blue which are the colors in the blinds.

Anyway, I love how they look in my living room:

and on the sun porch (aka, our little breakfast nook and Buster's toy/play room):

OMG, I forgot I'd added a strip of wall paper to that lampshade!!!  LOL!  Gotta get that off of there too!

Overall, despite what I've gotten myself into, I have had a chance to sneak in and enjoy visiting most of you between this chore; and I have worked "at" a few projects which I hope to have ready to share with you tomorrow.  Hopefully, I'll have all this paper off my walls by this evening!  Thank God, we had the walls painted before the paper went up and because it's glossy paint it's washing down very nicely and we won't have to repaint.

Oh yea, where's the hubby while I'm doing this -- he's disappeared of course!!!  LOL!!!  Isn't he smart?!!!  LOL!  It's work and he's retired -- LOL!!!

Well, just wanted to pop into say hello and that I haven't forgotten you!!!

Wish me luck!!!

Hugs!

Wow Audrey your blinds are beautiful and your living room is gorgeous. The same thing happened to me. I had wallpaper (mural) on my walls and when I decided to take it down and paint I thought I could just pull it down 1-2-3 well let me tell you it took me a my son hours and hours trying to get it off. Never again will I put up wallpaper. I felt like painting right over it (lol) but we got it down!!!

I love the new blinds, what a fabulous room! Do you play the piano or does the hubby?
I am so glad I am not the only person that thinks that way. I am always changing things.
Glad your well sweetie!

Audrey, The only way I've found wallpaper border to be easy to get off is to use sizing before you put it up. Sorry your having all the trouble. It will be worth it. Shari (cricutrookie)

Good luck! We did some remodeling in a house my mom bought a few years ago and I swear they glued the wallpaper border on with Crazy Glue! In 4 rooms! Plus wallpaper in the bathroom! I too swore I would never ever put wallpaper or border in any room!

Oh Audrey, I have never taken wall paper down before (I want to take it off my kitchen walls), BUT I have heard that it was QUITE a job to get it off. (lol that what hubbies do, vanish) I am so glad you are almost done getting it down. The blinds looks absolutely gorgeous. Love your front room. It's beautiful... That piano is also beautiful, do you play? I always wanted to take lessons, my dad told me (when I was a teenager) if I took accordion lessons, then he would let me take piano lessons... but I never got too. sending you lots of hugs (can't wait to see what you have to show us tomorrow.)

Hi Audrey, that sounds like something I would do. You did a pretty good job of getting most of it down. I really love your new blinds. Very pretty :)

LOL Oh Audrey I feel for you and I sure hope it doesn't snowball out of control, lol! We've been working on a two room addition FOREVER! Almost done and then the Hubs decides he wants to change ALL the window sills and moldings through the whole house! (It really does look good though!) And since the rooms got added now I have a crafting space. The Hubs is adding some corner shelves for me tomorrow, That's why I haven't been doing alot of crafting. I'm having major withdrawals but I can't wait to take some pics and show you all my new space. Hopefully soon! Have fun with the new paint (believe it or not I LOVE TO PAINT! and if I was close I'd come and help you! lol) Take pics and then you can scrap them! Becareful my friend on that ladder also!!!!!!!
((Hugs)) and take care, Theresa

Hope you get it all done soon, w/out too much stress. It's a yucko job, for sure, but just think of the outcome!

Who's the piano player in the family?? I'm guessing "you". Am I right?? :-)

Thank you for all your comments! I really appreciate them.

Several of you asked about the piano... well, I'm the pianist in the family. Eight years of music at the Chicago Baptist Institute and I've never liked to play! learning to play was something my parents made me do growing up -- LOL!!! Grew up playing at my grandfather's church. That piano is over 50 years old. My grandfather bought it for me when I started taking music and I've held on to it and take care of it because it's the only thing I've got left given to me from him. I haven't played it in years; but I do keep it tuned!

You have your work cut out for you! I remember removing wall paper with my mom when I was a teenager and it took forever. I don't suppose the process has gotten any easier over the years. Hopefully it won't take you too long to get the rest off. Can't wait to see what you have been creating.

Love your blinds. Yes I have to rip down wall paper too! I heard of this vinegar method as well... I have been wanting to take the wall paper down for the past 2 years. And I have to do it this fall. I hate wallpaper and the folks who had this home before us - well lets just say it's everywhere and ugly. I want to do two tone sponge painting... wish me luck... anyway Audrey - so glad you are done - show us the lamp when you are done.

The hard part of any project in our homes is that everything is connected and once you start there is always another project! Great blinds and good luck with your project.

Audrey, the new blinds are absolutely divine! I would hate to have to remove wall paper but I thought the steam method was the easiest. Of course, I don't have wallpaper so I wouldn't know (just read that it was the easiest). Now I know NOT to have up wallpaper. The piano is gorgeous, a cherished keepsake of your grandfather. I'm trying to teach myself to play using a keyboard. *sigh* It's like taking down wall paper. LOL!

Girl, I have been there. When we bought our brand new house 10 years ago, the builder had used wall paper in some of the rooms. I have removed it from the master bath and the kitchen, but it was a task (esp the kitchen). Good luck!!!! Your house is lovely!

You haven't posted in a few days... I pray everything is ok. hugs

You are too funny Audrey!!!

When we moved to our current house just over 2 years ago, the basement bathroom had wallpaper that had been painted over. The wallpaper was bubbling and peeling. I feel your pain ~ it took me forever to get it off the wall!! The walls were never primered so I had to skim coat them (not my best talent).

Your blinds are gorgeous!!!
